11 Low Budget Valentines Day Ideas

Today is Valentines Day. Our family has had a lot of financial struggles this winter with high heating and electric bills so this year I have to forgo some of my plans for my husband. But even on a low budget you can make Valentines Day special. You don’t need to spend lots of money to show that you love your special some one. Here are a few ideas that cost little, to no money and can be very sweet and romantic. You just have to get a little creative.

1. Rental movie and popcorn.

2. Indoor picnic. Throw a blanket on the living room floor and feed each other.

3. Make your special someone their favorite dinner.

4. Write a love letter. You know, like the really heart felt or even dorky ones you used to write in the early stages of your relationship.

5. Make a chocolate desert.

6. Go for a moon lit walk. It’s cold out there so you will have to hold each other close.

7. Board game night. (My husband and I are kinda nerdy. Bring on Settlers of Catan!)

8. Go on a winter hike. (If you are the outdoorsy type.)

9. Make a meal together.

10. Wine and Cheese night. Dim the lights, cozy on the couch, and talk…or don’t talk. (Use your imagination there.)

11. Slow Dance. Dim the lights, put on your song, and dance together.

If you have kids wait until they go to bed to cozy up and watch that movie or have your wine or that dance. Or you could celebrate Valentines Day as a family. Who says Valentines Day is only for romantic love? Show that you love your family by spending time with them. Make heart shaped sandwiches and deserts and have that indoor picnic together. Pick a family friendly movie and have a family movie night. Make your kids favorite meal.

Being on a tight budget or not having a babysitter doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate. It just means you have to think outside the box a bit.

Do you have any great low cost Ideas? What are your valentines Day plans this year? What are some creative things you’ve done in the past? Please share your ideas in the comments. I would love to see what kinds of things you’ve come up with!

I hope you have a great day tomorrow! Remember, even small gestures can mean a lot.
